Vegas Pool Season is BACK!

Las Vegas doesnt have an ocean or a beach chalk full waves and great weather to speak of, but what we do have is a 7-8 months full of parties by the pool. What do we do for the other 4-5 months, you may ask? Well we wait for pool season! Well the wait is over! ITSSSSSS BAAAACCCKKKK!!!

DJ’s, Bikinis, and a whole lot of partying! Here is just a small sample of what you will see this season.

All shot with a d700, 24-70 2.8, and sb800. If you have any technical questions on how to match exposures with flash to ambient, as always feel free to email me.

When i first received my Fuji X100, i went thru a series of emotions. Joy, intrigue, and ultimately frustration. Why you may ask? The Fuji x100 sensor is excellent, the image quality and dynamic range are nearly unmatched in this form factor at this price point. However, the handling and usability of the camera was crippled by poor auto focusing, and almost non-existent manual focusing. But you have seen me praise this camera in the past, the reason being is the fact that Fuji stands behind their products and improves the camera as much as it can via firmware updates. Which leads me to the topic at hand; Firmware 1.20.

This new firmware changes the handling of the camera completely, im no longer cursing the camera every time it miss focuses, or when i have to dig in the menus to turn on the ND filter, or iso, or even metering. Its much more customizable, the “RAW” button is now a secondary function button, and the focus has been greatly improved. Before 1.20 i was having issues focusing on subjects within 4ft without using the “macro” feature, now i can finally shoot without worrying about miss focus or having to switch functions to use the camera naturally.

Conclusion: If you own an x100, update now! Do not wait, this new firmware has made me fall in love with this camera all over again.

I was contracted by Marquee Nightclub at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas to document New Years Eve with DJ Kaskade. Pandemonium ensued as Kaskade tweeted “So @MarqueeLV I have always played these long sets, So for New Years Eve i was thinking of doing 12 to 12 for 2012.” This one tweet went viral within seconds. It was the talk of the town, and also the world. “Would he really do it?” “Can he?” “Will people actually be able to continue partying until 12 noon?!!” The Answer is YES! He did it, and with the completion on his performance, he set a new record here in Las Vegas, as well as at Marquee Nightclub. I also decided to put my new camera (Nikon D3s) through the ringer and see what it could do… Im amazed by its high iso performance. but more on that in a separate post.
